  • It is estimated that approximately 20 million people are infected with genital human papillomavirus or HPV. (1)

  • It is believed that another 6.2 million people are newly infected with HPV each year. (1)

  • Some sources estimate that as many as 80-90% of people will contract HPV at some point in their lives.

  • There are around 250 known strains of human papillomavirus, about 40 that are genital human papillomavirus or HPV, the virus that also causes genital warts.

  • HPV is thought to account for approximately 70% of new cervical cancer cases diagnosed each year
